“Persian Gulf” will not be dropped from medals

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) -- Iran’s National Olympic Committee Secretary General Bahram Afsharzadeh pointed out on Sunday they will not remove the name of “Persian Gulf” from the medals of the 2nd Islamic Countries Solidarity Games.

Some Arab states have threatened the Iranians that they will not participate in the games if the name “Persian Gulf” is not removed from the medals and brochures.

“Persian Gulf is a part of our country and we will not remove these words from the medals at all. We don’t care if one or two countries such as the United Arab Emirates withdraw from the games,” he added.

The 2nd Islamic Countries Solidarity Games will be held in the three largest cities of Iran- Tehran, Mashhad and Isfahan from 16 to 30 October.
