TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) -- Iranian literary scholar Hossein Elahi Qomshei reviewed and discussed the role of Iran-Tajikistan joint literature in the development of cultural and literary ties.

The meeting was held in collaboration with Iran’s embassy in Tajikistan and the Writers’ Union of Tajikistan at the venue of the union in Dushanbe on Thursday.

Elahi Qomshei began with the lofty position of literature in solving the current problems in the world and said, “Literature can rescue spirituality in today’s world where the situation is like that which people experienced prior to the flood in the days of Prophet Noah (A), when it was saved with the help of Noah’s Ark.”

He expressed his satisfaction on the development of bilateral ties and added, “Today where thousands are being drowned in the flood of materialistic life, religious culture and literature can save mankind from drowning deep in wars, battles and life. It is here where literature can begin to save man, because literature talks of the presence of God, spirituality, and how people can live in peace.”

“I hope we can promote literature and hold more literary sessions with the participation of Iranian and Tajik literary figures. If we return to our literary sources, we will be saved from the irreligious lifestyle and we will achieve peace and friendship,” he concluded.

Iran’s Ambassador Ali-Asghar Sherdust regarded the bilateral ties very positive and said these sessions would help strengthen cultural ties between the Persian speaking countries of Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

Mihman Bakhti from the Tajik Union also placed emphasis on enhancing ties and said that for many years, the people of Tajikistan have regarded Iran and Iranian nation as their brothers and friends, but relations between the two countries have been limited.
