Iran sees 168% rise in exports to Syria

TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) – An official with the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) stated here on Saturday that the country’s exports to Syria increased by nearly 168 percent in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2009) compared with the figure for the year to March 2006.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Seyyed Hossein Hosseini as saying that in 2005 Iran’s exports to Syria hit some $120 million and were increased to about $320 million by March 2009, adding in the period, the country has exported $1 billion worth of technical and engineering services to Syria.

 

In the calendar year ended March 20, 2009 the balance of Iran-Syria trade was $304 million in favor of Iran, the official added.

 

Gas turbine components, pistachio, cars, receivers and transmitters, wires, auto parts, and faucets were the main Iranian-made products exported to Syria.

 

Hosseini put the value of Iran’s imports from Syria at some $16 million, mainly including olive oil, polyurethane, and isocyanates.
