John Kerry says U.S. seeking Iran engagement

DEAD SEA, Jordan, May 16 (MNA) – U.S. Senator John Kerry said on Saturday that the Obama administration is not interested in promoting regime change in Iran and instead is focusing on engagement.

The Democratic senator told the participants at the World Economic Forum, hosted by Jordan, that President Obama and his advisors are seeking ways to cooperate with Tehran.

He also blasted U.S. intervention in Iran including the CIA involvement in the toppling of Mossadeq government in 1953, the Mehr News Agency correspondent reported from Jordan.

The senator who ran against Bush in the 2004 elections said the U.S. is seeking a new security arrangement in the Middle East in which Iran can have an important place.

On Iran’s nuclear program, he claimed that major powers including China and Russia are worried that Tehran may turn its nuclear energy activities into a weapons program.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is monitoring all the processes of nuclear activities in Iran by installing cameras and making regular inspections.
