Travelling not affordable for over 70% of Iranians

TEHRAN, May 13 (MNA) -- More than 70% of the country’s over- 70-million population can’t afford to go on a trip once a year, a faculty member of Tehran Allameh Tabatabaii University said here on Wednesday.

The average cost of a short-term travelling to a three-member family is in over $1,000 in Iran, Hamid Zarqam said, stressing that most of the country’s population is not able to pay for such a trip even once a year.

Zarqam, who is also expert in tourism, referred to the recent programs of state Cultural Heritage Organization to provide government employees with travel cards and low-cost travels, and called them insufficient.
