Iran saffron exports up 81% year on year

TEHRAN, May 12 (MNA) – Iran exported nearly $92 million worth of saffron in the last calendar year (ended March 20), showing an 81 percent growth compared with the preceding year.

Spain was the major export market of Iranian saffron, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, France, India, and Japan, reported IRINN.


Saffron exports amounted to some $3.2 million in the first month of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-April 20), up 45 percent compared to the figure for the same period in 2008.


The United Arab Emirates ranked first in importing Iranian saffron in the mentioned period, followed by Spain, India, and Saudi Arabia.
