Seminary, university graduates back Ahmadinejad candidacy

TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) – In a statement issued on Monday a number of university and seminary graduates announced support for Ahmadinejad in the upcoming presidential election.

The group decided to back the incumbent president because it found him the most qualified candidate, the statement said.


Naming cabinet members will affect voters’ decisions


Mohammad Hashemi stated on Monday that naming cabinet members before presidential election will have a direct influence on people’s votes.


He said that candidates should introduce some key members of their cabinet like first vice president, interior, foreign, economy ministers, and Central Bank governor to the electorate.


Such a move will show a candidate’s tendencies if he takes the helm, Hashemi, the brother of Hashemi Rafsanjani, told the Mehr News Agency.


Hashemi, as senior member of the pragmatic Servants of Construction Party, noted that Mousavi has entered the election race as an independent and this is a positive point for him.


In the light of such independence, Mousavi’s cabinet will include qualified persons with less dependence on a particular party if he wins the polls.


Reshuffling cabinet will benefit Ahmadinejad


Former MP Mohsen Yahyavi stated on Monday that Ahmadinejad can gain more votes if he vows to reshuffle his cabinet.


Talking to the MNA, the member of Engineers Islamic Society (EIS) said the performance of some government officials will influence people’s votes in the presidential race.


He added that each action which indicates a departure from the past policies can secure more votes for the incumbent president.


Ahmadinejad’s economic team should change


Conservative politician Mohammad-Nabi Habibi stated on Monday that some changes are needed in Ahmadinejad’s economic team. However, Habibi said there is no need to change other members of the cabinet.


The senior member of the Followers of the Imam and Leadership Front, who was talking in Shiraz, noted that the principlists will win the polls if they show unity.


People should vote if they are unhappy


Presidential challenger Karroubi stated on Monday that people should participate in the election if they are worried about the current situation.


Talking in Kermenshah, Karroubi also said that he will put a brake on inexpert decisions. He added if he wins the polls he will first restore the Management and Planning Organization (MPO).


Karroubi went on to say that all Iranians should benefit from the oil and gas stocks.


On the country’s foreign policy, Karroubi said he will seek an interaction with other countries to bring glory to the country.
