UNDP to cooperate with Iran in mine clearance

TEHRAN, May 6 (MNA) – Iran and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) agreed on Wednesday to cooperate in clearing the remaining minefields in the Iran-Iraq border areas.

The mines have been left from the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war

 

During a meeting between Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Ershadmanesh and the UNDP representative in Tehran, the UN official proposed the cooperation agreement which was approved by the Iranian side.

 

Iran and Iraq recently established a joint demining committee.
