50 persons register for presidential election

TEHRAN, May. 5 (MNA) About 50 persons registered to contest presidential elections in the first day of registration, Kamran Daneshju stated on Tuesday.

The Interior Ministry election chief said that so far there are four women among the presidential hopefuls. The registration lasts for five days.


Current candidates unable to form an effective administration: Rezaii


Presidential challenger Mohsen Rezaii stated on Tuesday that rival contenders in both conservative and reformist camps are not able to form an effective administration.


Talking to his supporters in the city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan province, Rezaii said that he is contesting the polls with the aim of forming a coalition government.


He added that his goal is to raise people’s standard of living. 


He noted that if he was sure that current candidates could “save” the Iranian nation from the current condition, he would not have run for president.


The presidential hopeful went on to say that it is not acceptable that some people ask particular candidates to drop out of the race in favor of others.


 Ex-MP says Rezaii’s contest is bravery 


Emad Afrough of the Independent Principlist Movement stated on Tuesday that Rezaii’s presidential contest is a kind of “bravery”.


Rezaii’s candidacy will cause a massive turnout among the supporters of the principlist camp, he told the Mehr News Agency.


The former MP noted that Rezaii’s candidacy proved that principlists don’t have just one candidate.


Qom’s Imam and Leadership Front backs Ahmadinejad


In an announcement issued on Tuesday Followers of Imam Line and Leadership Front in Qom province announced support for Ahmadinejad in the June presidential race.


In the light of a decision by the front’s central council to support Ahmadinejad, the followers of the political group in Qom province also decided to support the incumbent president.


Principlist women associations to name candidate soon


The principlist women groups will name their favored presidential candidate next week.


Seven women groups are member to the principlist camp. Some of them had earlier announced support for Ahmadinejad.


Real competition is between Mousavi and Ahmadinejad


Ali Motahhari stated on Tuesday that it seems that the reform and principlist camps are contesting the election with two candidates each but the real competition is between Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Ahmadinejad.


The principlist MP told MNA that Rezaii’s contest showed that principlist camp doesn’t run for presidency with just one candidate.
