Iran crowned Asian junior water polo champions

TEHRAN, May 5 (MNA) -- Iran claimed the Asian Junior Water Polo Championships here on Tuesday.

The team, which on Monday qualified for the World Junior Water Polo Championships, battled to an 8-8 draw against Uzbekistan but came first on goal difference.

Iran and Uzbekistan each bagged seven points in the event but according to the rules, the Iranian team won the title because of its result against Kazakhstan. Iran beat Kazakhstan 15-8 while Uzbekistan defeated its rival 15-9.

At the end of the competitions held at the Azadi Swimming Pool, Iran, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan qualified for the 15th FINA World Men’s Water Polo Junior Championships which will be held in Croatia from August 22 to 30, 2009.

The tournament will be held with 20 participants.
