Caspian littoral states hold conference in Bandar Anzali

TEHRAN, May 5 (MNA) – The first conference of ports directors of Caspian Sea littoral states opened in Bandar Anzali, Gilan province, on Tuesday.

The two-day conference is attended by officials from Russia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran following the agreements reached at the economic conference of Caspian Sea littoral states that was held in Russia in 2008.


Developing shipping cooperation between the states, relaxing regulations on loading and unloading cargoes, balancing ports duty ratio, making optimum use of transportation capacities, improving infrastructures of the ports and expanding scientific and educational cooperation are among the objectives of the conference.


Also, Russia and Iran are to sign a memorandum of understanding on sea rescue operation and preventing water pollution that is caused by ships.
