Rezaii criticizes TV, urges televised debates

TEHRAN , May 4 (MNA) - In a letter to national TV director Ezatollah Zarqami released on Monday, the conservative presidential candidate Mohsen Rezaii has stated that despite the fact a short time is left until the election date no serious move is seen by the TV in creating an election atmosphere and causing enthusiasm among the electorate. The presidential elections will be held on June 12.

He also has asked Zarqami to arrange TV debates among the presidential hopefuls in order to create a real competition and that the people become informed of the candidates’ plans and perspectives.

 

“Lack of televised debates in presidential elections has caused a lack of transparency….and this is considered the greatest injustice to the people and national decision-making.”

 

The former IRGC commander has also said he is ready to hold debates with the current three presidential contenders especially Mousavi and Ahmadinejad.

 

Rezaii will also travel to the southern Khuzestan province on Tuesday as he begins his first provincial campaign tours.

 

 Election results will be announced on June 13

 

Interior Ministry election chief Kamran Daneshju predicted on Monday that the election results will be announced on June 13, just one day after the election. He said that 46.2 million people can vote in the presidential election.

 

Talking at a press conference, Daneshju said that the candidates’ representatives are not allowed to interfere in election’s executive affairs.

 

By observing any violation the candidates’ representatives can just report to the governor’s representative, he explained. He said that the Interior Ministry will hold a free and fair election, adding the main goal is to encourage a huge turnout in the election.

 

The Interior Ministry election chief also noted that the registration of presidential hopefuls will start on Tuesday (today) and will last for five days.

 

Real contest is between supporters and opponents of current condition

 

Hasan Rohani stated on Sunday that the real contest is not between reformist and principlist candidates, rather it is between the supporters and the opponents of the current situation.

 

The member of Expediency Council said that those who believe that the country is in a good political, economic, and international condition are contesting with those who believe that the current condition is not acceptable and that it can be improved through a better management. 

 

Talking to Moderation and Development Party members, he said that it is expected from the party members to support a candidate who can end this situation and create a better condition for the country.

 

Mousavi meets religious figures in Mazandaran

 

Presidential challenger Mousavi held separate meetings with three religious figures in Mazandaran province on Monday. Mousavi discussed issues with them privately. 

 

Next president should turn threats into opportunities

 

Hadi Khamenei stated on Monday that the next president should be able to turn the threats into opportunity.

 

Talking in Qom, Khamenei noted that a capable manager can understand opportunities and use them properly.

 

Association of Combatant Clerics Secretary General said that a president should have a good understanding of social, cultural, political and political issues and make plans for them.

 

Freedom Front members meet Karroubi

 

Senior council members from the Freedom Front met presidential candidate Karroubi on Monday. The meeting was held in Karroubi’s office in Tehran to discuss election and examine Karroubi’s plans in the presidential race. The Freedom Front was expected to issue a statement to support Karroubi’s candidacy after the meeting.
