Asian archives presidents in Tehran for SWARBICA Congress

TEHRAN, May 4 (MNA) -- Presidents of the national archives from five Asian countries will arrive in Tehran on Tuesday to attend the South and West Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SWARBICA) Congress.

Iran National Library and Archive (INLA) will play host to the congress, which is running for the next few days, INLA official Fariba Farzam said on Monday.

She added that the guests include heads of the national archives from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

“The president of International Council on Archives (ICA) was also invited to the congress, but an ICA official is coming instead,” she continued.

“Also among their other programs are visiting the national library, Golestan Museum, the main building of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the National Museum of Iran, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as holding talks with cultural officials,” she said.

Unfortunately, Iran did not actively participate in the congress for ten years. Although INLA director Ali-Akbar Ashari is the president of SWARBICA Executive Board, Iran has not hosted the congress since 1997, she remarked.
