“Wall” targeting teen girl audiences

TEHRAN, July 22 (MNA) -- Iranian filmmaker Mohammad-Ali Talebi said that his latest film “The Wall” targets teenage girl film watchers.

“Due to the film’s theme and its young star Golshifteh Farahani I believe that the film will catch the eyes of young girls,” he told the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.

The film is about a teen girl Setareh, who plans to continue her father’s job as a performer of motorcycle acrobatic stunts after his death.

The film has been scheduled to premiere in Iranian movie theaters on July 24, which was described by Talebi as timely.

“Fortunately, the increase in the number of film watchers over the past year shows that people have been welcoming Iranian cinema and this is a very promising sign,” he said.

“It’s usually difficult to convince the cultural officials and theater owners to put a film on the screening schedule, however I have succeeded to get a chance after several of my previous films remained unscreened,” Talebi added.

Talebi’s credits include “You Are Free”, “Willow and Wind”, “Bag of Rice”, “Tick Tack”, and “The Boot”.

Previously Talebi had to make 23 modifications to the film to obtain a screening license from the Supervisory and Assessment Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. The film was shown at the 26th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran in February 2008.

The film also stars Mehrdad Seddiqian, Azita Hajian, and Mohammad Kasebi.
