Qashqavi takes over as Foreign Ministry spokesman

TEHRAN, July 21 (MNA) – Veteran diplomat Hassan Qashqavi was officially appointed as the new Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday.

Qashqavi, who formerly served as ambassador to Sweden and Kazakhstan, replaced Mohammad-Ali Hosseini who has been appointed Foreign Ministry director for legal and international affairs.


Addressing his introduction ceremony, Qashqavi said, “Today in the modern world public opinion is the new superpower and a spokesman has the sensitive and special duty to respond to these superpower and constantly explain to it both inside and outside the country.”


He called on the Foreign Ministry to establish further relations with foreign media, saying, “Today we need assistance from media.”


Qashqavi expressed appreciation for the efforts of his predecessor, saying, “During Hosseini’s term, Iranian envoys and political representatives abroad had more authority and our diplomats had an active presence in media,” he added.


Hosseini also wished Qashqavi success, saying, “If a spokesman wants to declare stance in time and be successful in his work, he will need the support of the Foreign Ministry’s managers and experts.”
