Islam gives due rights to women: Taskhiri

TEHRAN, July 20 (MNA) -- “Islam accords a significant role to women in process of development of the country”, Chairman of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri, said here last week.

Speaking to a seminar on Consolidation of Family in the Islamic Law in Syria Ayatollah Taskhiri said that Islam considers men and women as equal genders with common duties toward children and maintaining family life.

Women are entitled to their due rights in light of the Islamic human rights charter, he noted.

Essential rights and civil liberties are part of rights envisaged in Islam for women, he added.

The Seminar on Consolidation of Family in Islamic Law wrapped up its two-day work at Syrian Faculty of Islamic Science last Sunday.

It studied ways to fill the current vacuum caused by ignoring the family values enshrined by Islam.

Over 50 distinguished experts and academic elites from universities of Syria, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Qatar attended the event.
