TEHRAN, July 12 (MNA) -- Mohammadreza Arab’s docudrama “Iris and Ashes” will be shown at Cinéma vérité Hall on July 14 in commemoration of the Srebrenica massacre.

One of the bloodiest events in contemporary European history, the massacre occurred on July 11, 1995 when the Bosnian-Serb army corps entered the Muslim-populated city of Srebrenica, and savagely killed 8,000 Bosnian civilians.

 

The film, which is on the theme of the Srebrenica massacre, will be shown at the venue located on No.17, Shahid Qandi Square, Northern Sohrevardi St.

 

 

Leyden and Cambridge to hold conference on Khayyam and FitzGerald

 

TEHRAN -- Omar Khayyam, Edward FitzGerald and the Rubaiyat Conference will be held at Leyden University and the University of Cambridge from July 6 to 10, 2009.

 

The conference will be held to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the former Cambridge student Edward FitzGerald (1809) and the 150th anniversary of the first publication of his famous Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (1859).

 

In collaboration with the Persian Department at the University of Leyden (the Netherlands), Cambridge faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies is organizing a four-day conference, which will examine both the life and work of Omar Khayyam in Leyden on July 6 and 7 July and the life and work of Edward FitzGerald in Cambridge on July 9 and 10.

 

 

Rare banknotes and coins donated to Astan-e Qods Museum

 

TEHRAN -- Iranian Indian-based donator Jalal Aryaii has contributed a collection of old bank notes and precious coins to Astan-e Qods Razavi Museum in Mashhad.

 

The collection is comprised of rare bank notes from several countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lebanon, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea and Bahrain. 

 

The oldest coin in the collection is a one rupee silver coin which dates back to India’s British colonial rule in 1912.
