TEHRAN, July 12 (MNA) -- Veteran musicians of Azerbaijan Republic Tofiq Baki Khanov and Ramiz Zohrabov are coming to Ardebil to participate in Iran’s Northwest Maqami Music Festival.

Iran’s Northwest Maqami Music Festival will be held in Ardebil on July 15 and 16, and the winners will receive the Master Ali Salimi Plaque.

Ramiz Zohrabov is doctor of musicology and head of the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire. He has written several books on Azeri music and its varieties of maqams.

Master Baki Khanov is a musician at the conservatoire. He will be performing the piece “Morgh-e Sahar” composed by Morteza Neydavud. His father was master of Ali Salimi and he is to give a lecture about master Salimi during the two-day event.

The organizers of the festival have announced that the reason for inviting musicians from Azerbaijan Republic is that Iranian Azeri music and music of the Republic of Azerbaijan share a common origin.

The festival is organized by the Ardebil Art Bureau and aims to revive and preserve the traditional Azeri music. Singers from northwest Iran including Tabriz, Urumiyeh, Zanjan and Ardebil, as well as Azeri singers from Tehran are participating in the event.
