Majlis seeking to harness “economic twists and turns”: Larijani

TEHRAN, July 9 (MNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday called for a nationwide cooperation to resolve Iran’s mounting economic problems.

“The country’s policy should tackle economic twists and turns and let the nation cross the gorge,” Larijani told officials from Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines (ICCIM).

He said Majlis is optimistic about the implementation of Article 44 of the Constitution which calls for the privatization of stated-owned organizations.

“The system’s policy is to privatize the economy… The private sector should also have a part in Iran’s efforts to stand up to Western pressure. We should bear in mind that the enemy is using the language of violence and pressure and no one in Iran is willing to surrender to pressure.”

“Competition is an inseparable part of justice… Most of the philosophers cite competition and lawfulness as the main elements of justice,” he added.

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines can act as the advisor to the Majlis and convey the private companies’ viewpoints to the parliamentary committees, Larijani stated.

He said the parliament should draw up plans that will remove obstacles in the way of Iran’s economic development.

“The Majlis should also amend rules that are not based on Iran’s current economic situation”.

“For example, it was previously believed that justice demands a major part of economy be in the hands of the government… ,however, today all movements and groups agree that the private sector’s presence in economy is useful,” Larijani observed.
