DAMASCUS, July 8 (MNA) – The two Iranian leading auto-maker companies, Iran Khodro and SAIPA, were warmly welcomed in the 8th Syrian International Motor Show (SYRMOTORSHOW 2008) which was held here in the Syrian capital city from July 1-7, 2008.

According to IRIB, during the one-week event, visitors bought 1,100 Syrian-assembled cars of Iran Khodro and 500 cars of SAIPA Company.

SAIPA signed a deal on exporting car spare parts valued at $260,000 with Syrian companies while holding talks for concluding a contract for the export of oil filters worth almost $600,000 once the sides come to terms on a final price.

The director of IKCO’s central agency in Syria announced,“We anticipated a great welcome for the two Iranian companies, but the amount of sales was really beyond our expectation.”

Second to Korea’s Hyundai, IKCO grabbed the lion’s share of Syrian car market in 2007 outpacing KIA Motors, SAIPA, and Ford.

High quality, reasonable prices, and suitable after sales services have attracted the Syrians towards Iranian-made cars, the official said.

The event was attended by 228 automakers and 28 banking and technical services companies from all around the world.
