Conservatives have started consultations on presidential poll

TEHRAN, July 5 (MNA) - A member of the Islamic Coalition Party, Asadollah Badamchian, said on Saturday that the conservative groups have begun consultations to win the tenth presidential election.

In light of the special situation the country is in, unity among the conservatives is desirable in the run-up to next year’s presidential election, he added.

He told the Mehr News Agency that conservatives should prioritize this purpose in any election as well as the upcoming elections, stressing that there is already unity among the faction.

He said sometimes competitions are obstacles in achieving unity.

Building upon previous experiences, the conservatives should select a single candidate, Badamchian stated.

Asked about the possibility that the conservatives would reach a consensus on selecting current President Mahmud Ahmadinejad as their candidate for next year’s election, he noted, “Everything is possible in politics and (we) cannot predict the future; the important thing is to attempt to reach a consensus.”
