Iran’s Pezeshkian, Pakistan’s Sharif discuss regional tension

TEHRAN, Mar. 24 (MNA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held talks on the latest regional developments.

According to Mehr News Agency, citing the Iranian government's official website, President Masoud Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the implications of the "illegal war" by the United States and Israel for regional and global security during a telephone conversation.

The Iranian president outlined the aggression, illegal attacks, and crimes committed by the United States and Israel, stating that Iran did not initiate the war. The aggressor enemy, without reason, logic, or legal basis, launched a military attack against Iran amid nuclear negotiations, resulting in the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, senior military commanders, and numerous defenseless citizens, including innocent students, and targeted the country's public facilities. Therefore, defending Iran's territory is a natural and inherent right.

Pezeshkian praised the strong and brotherly relations between the two neighboring and friendly countries, adding that Iran remains committed to safeguarding stability and security and countering foreign interference in regional affairs. He reiterated Iran's willingness to expand and strengthen intra-regional cooperation with neighboring countries.

The president further emphasized that Iran's message to regional countries is clear. He called on Islamic nations not to allow the use of their territory or resources for attacks against Iran by the United States or the Israeli regime. He added that if regional countries cannot prevent the continuation of war and aggression, they should at least not facilitate continued unlawful actions against Iran, as such actions would only expand conflict and instability in the region.

Referring to the consequences of the U.S. and Israeli military actions on regional stability and maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian stated that the insecurity imposed on the Strait is a direct result of U.S. and Israeli military aggression. At the same time, he said Iran has taken necessary measures to ensure maritime security and safe passage through the waterway, adding that Iran will cooperate with vessels not belonging to or affiliated with the aggressors and those involved in the aggression.

During the call, the Pakistani prime minister congratulated Iran on the Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz holidays and expressed deep regret over the attack on Iran, which resulted in the death and injury of thousands of innocent Iranian citizens and senior officials. He reiterated the condolences of Pakistan's government and people to Iran and thanked Iran for its cooperation in ensuring the safe passage of Pakistani vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

Sharif also called for collective efforts by regional countries, particularly Muslim nations, to de-escalate tensions and restore lasting peace and stability. Affirming Iran's natural and inherent right to self-defense, he added that Pakistan has always stood with the Iranian government and people and will continue to do so.
