Peaceful protests in Iran hijacked by outsiders

TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (MNA) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Constitutional Council attributed the recent violent riots in the country to foreign interference that took advantage of peaceful protests to upset security.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Saturday, Hadi Tahan Nazif offered his condolences on the martyrdom of a number of Iranian security forces and ordinary citizens in the recent violent riots that unfolded after peaceful protests to economic problems.

He said one of the observers of the Constitutional Council in Qazvin is among those martyred amid the unrest.

Condemning the acts of vandalism, Tahan Nazif pointed to “covert hands” in the chaos, saying the hostile elements have already the blood of over 1,000 Iranians on their hands during the 12-day war imposed in June 2025.

“Foreign interference transformed peaceful protests of people directed at livelihood demands into riots and unrest,” he added.
