Iran condemns terrorist bombing in Karbala

TEHRAN, Jun. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari condemned Tuesday terrorist explosion in the Iraqi city of Karbala.

Expressing condolences to the families of victims, nation and government of Iraq, Jaberi Ansari underlined that confrontation with the threat of terrorism and extremism requires a national unity of the Iraqi people and the strong support of international community.

A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives in Karbala on Tuesday afternoon, killing at least seven civilians and wounding more than 20 people in the attack, local reports has said.

Iraqi sources said the bombing occurred five kilometers away from the shrines of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein, and his brother Hazrat Abbas.

In a propaganda statement, the so-called ISIL group said it had targeted members of the Popular Mobilization Committees, mainly Shia militias fighting ISIL alongside Iraqi government forces, Independent reported.
