FM spokesperson offers condolences for Ecuador quake victims

TEHRAN, Apr. 19 (MNA) – Foreign ministry spokesperson has offered condolences for families of the victims of Ecuador quake.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari told reporters on Tuesday that Islamic Republic of Iran expressed sympathy with the families of victims of the quake as well as Ecuadorian government.

A 7.6 magnitude earth quake in Richter scale hit the country on Saturday. Preliminary figures show that more than 300 people were killed with another 2,500 injured under the rubble.

“The hardest-hit area was the coastal Manabi Province, where about 200 people died, said Ricardo Peñaherrera of Ecuador's national emergency management office. The cities of Manta, Portoviejo and Pedernales, a tourist destination, saw the most devastation but damage was widespread throughout the country,” wrote a CNN coverage report of the event on Saturday.
