The remarks were made by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Tunisian Secretary of State for Arab and African Affairs Touhami Abdouli in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.
Zarif, while pointing to the extensive opportunities available for strengthening bilateral ties, stressed that the two countries see no limits in boosting political and economic cooperation.
The Iranian top diplomat hailed Tunisia for playing a positive role in regional crises, highlighting the need for political solutions and criticizing the countries which were still advocating military approaches in regard to the crises.
The Tunisian official, for his part, stressed the need for the implementation of past agreements between the two countries and preparing the grounds for future MoUs.
Abdouli expressed hope that Iran-Tunisia’s constructive political relations will also have tangible positive effects on the two countries’ economic cooperation.
He further added that the people of his country have suffered greatly from the atrocities committed by terrorist groups such as ISIL and the al-Nusra Front, and will not stand for any kind of compromise with the terrorists; “we will never consider war and military intervention as a solution to regional crises, but rather believe that unity and synergy of wisdom and tact between Arabs and Persians can lead to the fulfilment of all regional states’ interests.”
Tunisian Secretary of State for Arab and African Affairs Touhami Abdouli in the last leg of his trip to Tehran for holding the first political consultation committee between Iran and Tunisia, held talks with Foreign Minister Zarif on Tuesday afternoon. The two sides discussed the latest status in bilateral relations as well as regional developments including the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen.
