Hoopoe freed into the wild

TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) – Head of Dezful’s Environmental Protection Organization has said that a hoopoe bird has been released by this organization in the city of Dezful in South Western Iran.

Stating that a Dezfuli citizen had handed in a hoopoe bird to the Environmental Protection Organization of this city, Farhad Gholinejad said that, “this bird had landed in the citizen’s house due to a kind of illness and was later delivered to the authorities of the Environmental Protection Organization.”

He referred to the treatment of the bird and added that, “after the primary care treatment was carried out, the hoopoe was released and returned to nature.”

“Informing citizens about animal species and their importance has encouraged many people to deliver several animal species to this organization to get cured and be released,” said this official.

Gholinejad appreciated the citizens for their cooperation in terms of protecting animal species concluding that, “we need to provide people with more information and education in this regard and Dezful’s wildlife clinic needs to be equipped.”

The hoopoe also called hudhud is a colourful bird found across Afro-Eurasia, notable for its distinctive "crown" of feathers.
