Iran 2nd exporter to Iraq

ILAM, Aug. 11 (MNA) – Border Province officials say Iran is the second exporter of goods and services to Iraq.

According to officials of Iranian Western Province of Ilam, Iran is the number 2 trade partner of neighboring Iraq with just 360 million dollars of Iranian goods exported to Iraq from the border city of Mehran in the last 5 months, regardless of the other trade channels between the two nations.

Yarollah Nasiri the Head of Ilam Provincial Office of Iran’s Industry, Mine, and Trade Organization made the remark in the second sitting of Non-Oil Trade Development Committee of the border province.

Urging more preparation for enhancing export to Iraq and holding a bigger share, Nasiri voiced satisfaction over the measures being taken.

The official recounted that Turkey enjoys the biggest share of the market in Iraq and China stands at the third place after Iran.

Earlier in February, following the Iranian delegation visiting Iraq, the two countries signed agreements to bolster cooperation in the fields of air and road transportation, tourism, geology and mines as well as finding a solution to the dust storm problem that has plagued the two neighbors.

They also agreed to hold the third session of the joint Iran-Iraq economic commission. The two countries’ officials also signed documents to boost trade and animal husbandry cooperation and hold exhibitions.
