Meshaal’s Saudi visit ‘without effect’ on relations with Iran

TEHRAN, Aug. 04 (MNA) – Leader’s adviser in international affairs has downplayed Khaled Meshaal’s Saudi visit as ‘not of huge impact’ on Hamas-Iran relations.

Ali Akbar Velayati told Aljazeera on Tuesday that recent visits by political leader of Palestinian organization Hamas would not significantly damage its relations with Islamic Republic of Iran; “relations between Iran and Hamas are cordial and based on mutual friendship, and Iran would not interfere in Hamas’ internal affairs,” Velayati told the TV network.

“Hamas is one of the most powerful organizations in the array of Palestinian resistance organizations; I have personal cordial relations with Mr. Meshaal,” he said, denying any news stories that speculated a tense relations between Iran and the organization.

Velayati further added that he would welcome meeting with Palestinian Hamas leaders ‘whenever opportunity is favorable.’
