Iran exports first load of shrimp to Russia

TEHRAN, Jan. 13 (MNA) – Minister of agriculture announced that Iran had exported the first load of shrimp to Russia based on the agreement made between the two countries.

Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati, while visiting the National Research Center for Healthy Shrimp, said: “Russia has a demand of 200 thousand tones of shrimp that makes its market increasingly important and critical for Iran’s shrimp.” However, hojjati didn’t point to the volume of exported load.

“Iran has produced 20 thousand tones of shrimps this year, while last year it was about 10-12 thousand tones," he added.

Hojjati expressed hope that continuing this production process along with investment on infrastructures and governmental support will lead Iran to be placed as the first shrimp producer of the region.

The official also stated that Iran’s shrimp will be exported to EU and East Asia.
