TEHRAN, April 16 (MNA) – Iran’s permanent envoy to the UN has discussed the case of Abutalebi and the US refusal to issue a visa for him.

Gholamhossein Dehghani visited Miguel Soares with Baan ki-Moon’s under-secretary for legal affairs in New York Tuesday and discussed the US unconventional conduct on refusing to issue a visa for Mr. Abutalebi, Iran’s nominee for the post of permanent envoy.

Iran’s envoy emphasized that the UN as the host of representatives of sovereign nations had its own prestige and authority. “Every country sends its envoy according to its domestic policies and the Islamic Republic of Iran has nominated one of its experienced diplomats who had served as ambassador in Italy, Belgium, and Australia,” Iran’s envoy asserted, “but the host country, has refused to issue a visa for our nominee under the baseless pretext and in violation of its commitments as host of the UN.”

He also believed that this would affect the place of the UN and the member states.

Dehghani told the UN under-secretary that this time “all eyes view you and your conduct in the issue and what would be your reaction against such flagrant illegal act.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will pursue the case via Host Country Committee as well,” he added.

The UN under-secretary Miguel Soares said that they had viewed and studied Iran’s letter of objection and that “the issue is under scrutiny and after examinations, we will go forward with necessary arrangements and will cooperate as much as possible with Iranian delegation.”
