TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (MNA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Beijing is ready to expand its relations with Tehran in all areas.

The Chinese leader made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with visiting Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday. 
 
Xi pointed to his country’s long-lasting friendly ties with Iran and said that the relations between Tehran and Beijing were to the benefit of the two countries and the whole region. 
 
Commenting on the Syrian crisis, he said that China believed that the issue should be resolved through political means. 
 
For his part, the Iranian parliament speaker described efforts meant to increase cooperation between the two countries as positive and constructive. 
 
On the Syrian issue, Larijani said that certain countries’ wrong policy toward the Syrian conflict inflicted serious damage on the country and presented a major threat to the region. 
 
Iran believes that there is only a political solution to the crisis in Syria, he said.  
 
On Iran’s nuclear issue, he said that Tehran had put forward a new proposal in its most recent talks with world powers in Geneva to help resolve the issue, adding that hopefully the talks would achieve positive results through China’s cooperation. 
 
In a separate meeting with the chairman of the National People’s Congress of China on the same day, Larijani expressed hope that parliamentary relations between the two countries would be increased. 
 
Zhang Dejiang also said that the Iranian parliament speaker’s visit to China would help strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations.
