TEHRAN, Oct. 20 (MNA) – The director of Iran’s Environmental Protection Organization says the organization under her portfolio plans to establish an environmentally friendly city and village council movement across the country.

“Attention to environmental issues by councils can greatly help the Environmental Protection Organization, and therefore we plan to launch the movement of environmentally friendly councils across the country,” EPO Director Masoumeh Ebtekar stated on Saturday.
“The establishment of environment committees in city and village councils should be on the agenda of the Education and Research Department of the organization,” she added.
She went on to say that one of the priorities of the EPO Education and Research Department is to revitalize non-governmental organizations for the protection of the environment.
The people’s involvement, whether in the form of city and village councils or NGOs, can create a great force for the protection of the environment, she noted.
Ebtekar also said city and village councils have great potential, which can be used to achieve sustainable development in cities and villages.
