TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (MNA) – The first joint commission of Iran-Georgia economic cooperation was held in Tehran in the presence of Naser Khaleqi, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.

Speaking at the coordination meeting of the commission, Khaleqi, who is also the chairman of the joint commission said that given the economic situation of Georgia, this country could be considered as proper route for Iran-Europe commerce trades.

 

He said that the volume of Tehran-Tbilisi commerce trades is $45m, and the country is a proper market for the Iranian goods.

 

Georgia has created trade facilities for the Iranian traders and investors, the minister stated, noting that grounds have also been paved for the cooperation of Iran’s private sector for exporting goods as well as engineering and technical services to Georgia.

 

In addition, the two countries have expanded cooperation in energy, agriculture, transportation, and technical and vocational training sectors coupled with other cooperation fields of exporting gas to Georgia, purchasing electricity from this country, and repairing Georgia’s energy pipeline, he further stated.

 

When holding the joint commission of economic cooperation, Iran and Georgia will sign certain memoranda of understanding (MOUs), Khaleqi said, announcing that the joint meeting of the Iranian and Georgian traders will be held, which is an introduction to establish joint council of the chambers of commerce.

 

In conclusion, the minister stated that Iran-Georgia political ties have paved the way for the economic cooperation of the two countries.
