Montazeriun, the official in charge of plan and budget management project said that regarding heavy damages imposed on the province’s eastern infrastructures parts by destructive floods in 2001 and 2002, the implementation of the long-term projects to decrease the flood damages in the next years was essential simultaneously with carrying out the short-term ones.
Thus, an agreement on conducting studies in the watershed area of Madarsu River in Golestan Province was made between JICA and the watershed deputy of Forest and Range Organization last year, he added.
After the commission, the study team and the Japanese consultant company selected by JICA would start the pre-recognition studies, followed by studies carried out on the deserts, Montazeriun noted.
He further said that since Japan has valuable experiences in controlling floods as well as designing and installing the flood alarm systems, the said project would hopefully lead to useful results including the information technology conveyance.
Conducting studies would be completed by early 2007, and the proposed projects would be implemented by early 2022 if the required credits were provided, he explained.
In conclusion, the official said that during implementation of the project other actions would be carried out which include conducting the feasibility studies, proposing the proper projects in the flood-prone areas, and installing the flood alarm systems. Forwarding the instructions and the water overflow control plans, presenting the environment plans, conveyance of technology in the management plan as well as deigning structures preventing floods are among these measures as well.
