TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (MNA) -- Azeri singer Alim Qasimov is to perform concerts in the Iranian cities of Tabriz, Zanjan, and Tehran.

Tabriz will host Qasimov on October 7 and 8 and he will be performing in Zanjan on October 9. Qasimov will give the last performances of his Iranian tour at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall from October 11 to 13.

Qasimov is recognized as a virtuoso for his renderings of mugham, the most complex musical style of Azerbaijan. It is one of the classical music styles of the Caucasus region and Turkestan. The word mugham itself is derived from maqam, which means mode in Arabic.

The word mugham is also applied to the singer and the ensemble, which always features three instruments: tar, kamancheh, and daf.

The UNESCO International Music Council awarded Qasimov a prize in 1999.

His latest albums are “Love's Deep Ocean” and “The Art of the Mugham”.

He has performed in many countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Morocco.
