TEHRAN, July 9 (Mehr News Agency) – Hamedan Province is to develop its tourism industry this year.

According to the head of Hamden Municipality, a sum of 23b rials has been allocated to the development of the historical city of Hamedan.

Establishing the Hamedan Cultural Center, renovation of Einolqozat Edifice, Abbasabad summer resort, and Ganjnameh Inscriptions in the region are among the programs.

The makeover of Imamzadeh Mohsen (AS) is also among the programs to cater for the pilgrims traveling to the region.

The province is located in western Iran, in a rich farming region.

Hamedan is known for the manufacture of earthenware, rugs, luggage, and copper ware. It is the centre for Iranian shellac and leather trade and is located on the main route between Baghdad and Tehran.

Hamedan has a number of bazaars and several mosques. Also in the city are two tombs of special interest, one claimed to be that of the biblical Mordecai and Esther, and another the resting place of the great Islamic philosopher-physician Avicenna.

The city is believed to be the site of the city of Ecbatana (Hegmataneh), capital of the ancient Medes.
