TEHRAN May 15 (MNA) — “Finally, after 14 years of research and fieldwork, two new cotton seeds resistant to pests and worms are produced in our laboratories,” an official in the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad said here on Saturday.

“The new seeds called Neucleous and Super Elite were successfully produced after 14 years of research and fieldwork and have been presented to the High Council of Research and Production of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad,” said Hushang Bayat Asadi, director of the Cotton Research Institute.

 

The official maintained that the institute has also carried out researches and revisions on the commercial cotton seeds currently cultivated in the country and by implying some genetic changes in the seeds has improved them. He further noted that the process is currently under laboratory research, they will be ready for production and cultivation in the field within two years.

 

Asadi asserted that the new seeds are resistant to the prevalent pests, the report quoted Fars News Agency as saying.
