TEHRAN May 9 (MNA) -- The Sadra Company has succeeded in manufacturing a 4800-ton oil tanker in a Caspian Sea port; the first of its kind in the history of Iran.

General Director of the Sadra Company Jalil Khobreh said that previously Iran had to purchase giant oil tankers from abroad, then enter the Caspian Sea with the permission of Russia through the Don-Volga Canal.

He noted that transfer of the oil tankers through the Don-Volga Canal was difficult due to the long freeze-up each year and high expenses because of the monopoly responsible for the transfer of vessels through the canal.

Referring to other important measures taken by the company, Khobreh added they would construct oil platforms in the Caspian Sea.
