Mehr News quoted Col. Reza Khaki, Drone Development Group Commander, responding to a question about the drones. "Yaseer was designed for air reconnaissance operations given its dimensions, the type of its structure, body and the type of loads it carries," Khaki told reporters.
Asked why drones had moved to the center of attentions by many countries, he answered that “light weight and affordability are the main contributing factors, since it does not pose any threat to users, and its maintenance and repair is rather easy; furthermore, large numbers of them can take off simultaneously.”
On the differences of ‘Yaseer,’ and ‘ Shahed-129,’ Col. Khaki told the press that unmanned drones were designed to different missions. “Shahed-129 has a combat mission, and it also used for reconnaissance missions,” said the Colonel, and that “however, ‘Yaseer’ was designed for air reconnaissance operations given its dimensions, the type of its structure, body and the type of loads it carries.”
Asked about the drone’s flying endurance, Commander of Vali-e-Asr Drone Development Group said that “Yaseer can fly for 7 to 10 hours.” He also said that contrary to public “who may assume that it is pilotless, it is not so.”
“The drone has two pilots. A pilot outside, who flies the drone, makes necessary adjustments, and then hands its control to pilot inside. Insider pilot is a pilot in ground control unit leading the drone and navigation,” explained Col. Khaki.
“Its Maximum Operating Altitude is between 11,000 to 15,000 feet; and is radar-evading due to its aerodynamic design, the special substances used in its body and its small dimensions,” added he.
