TEHRAN, Sep. 22 (MNA) – The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, has called on Iran to help the committee to help provide relief aid to the Syrian people who have fled the war in the country.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York on the sidelines of the 68th UN General Assembly meeting.

Zarif, for his part, said that the Islamic Republic was ready to provide humanitarian aid to people at the crisis-hit parts of Syria.

The Syrian crisis, which has dragged on for more than two years, has claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people and has forced about two million Syrians to flee their homeland mostly to neighboring countries.
