TEHRAN, July. 29 (MNA) – Iran has built a new natural gas storage facility with a capacity to store 4.6 billion cubic meters of gas, the National Iranian Gas Company managing director stated.

The Shoorijeh facility, located in the northeast of the country, will officially come on stream in the next calendar month of Shahrivar (August 23-September 22), IRNA quoted Javad Owji as saying on Sunday.

The first natural gas storage facility in Iran was inaugurated in January. The Sarajeh facility has the capacity to store 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas.

Iran currently ranks 19th in the world in terms of natural gas storage capacity, and will claim the 5th place when the new facility becomes operational.

In November 2012, Owji said Iran plans to establish 40 gas storage facilities in the coming years.
