TEHRAN, Jun. 12 (MNA) – Iran UN envoy announced the opening of nearly twenty polling stations in several Eastern, Central and Western states in the US, for Iranian citizens living there.

Mohammad Khazaei referring to the process of preparation of polling stations in the US, for the enthusiastic participation of Iranians living there said: “Due to the concentration of Iranian citizens in different areas, and long distances, we have tried to maximize the citizens’ participation in eleventh presidential elections.

Iran UN envoy said:” The Iranian Interest Section in Washington has been asked to make necessary arrangements in different parts of the US, and fortunately, about 20 polling stations have been established for Election Day, on next Friday.”

Khazaei called California the highest concentration of polling stations in the US with six ballot boxes, and said: In New York, New Jersey, the State of Maryland, Washington and Virginia, which there are the most concentration of Iranians; polling station will be created in proportions.”

He added: “We will also have two polling stations in Texas, and a few more polling stations will be opened in the remaining days, as necessary.”

Khazaei said: “Fortunately, we have not encountered any problems establishing polling station so far. And Iranians living in the US can go to the polling stations with peace and security and cast their ballots.”

Iran UN envoy referring to launch of two Information Centers by the Iranian Interests Section in Washington said: “Detailed information about the location of the polling stations and what type of documents the voters must carry have been provided in these two Information Centers.”

Khazaei in another part of the interview, considered the widespread participation in the presidential election as the strong support for the country in regional and international diplomacy.

Iran's representative to the United Nations referring to reports in the US media and various analyzes about candidates’ comments and other issues of Iranian election said: “Elections in Islamic Republic of Iran is the most prominent example of the emergence of democratic governance in the region, and it is highly regarded by international observers.”

Khazaie said: “Undoubtedly, the strength and level of participation in the elections will have impact on the country's international status and at the same time helps to reduce the foreign pressures.

Participation of more than 50 percent of the people in the elections, and its comparison with European countries or even the US, will have a significant impact in promoting Iran’s position in the global standing.”
