According to NHK TV network, tensions between the US and North Korea has been very intense in recent weeks.
Kurt Campbell, former Assistant US secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said North Korea has rejected the direct talk proposal offered by the US.
Campbell said: “the US did not want to talk to Kim Jong Il or his successor Kim Jong UN the current leader of North Korea. But I say this is not correct, the US has had consultations with its allies and friends and has attempted to engage with North Korea directly, but Pyongyang has rejected the request altogether.”
According to the former U.S. diplomat, Chinese leaders can play a key role in reducing tensions in the region, since they can tell the North Korean officials to reconsider their provocative actions.
