Isfahan, Dec. 22 (MNA) – ‘Misri Desert’ is a small village located in Isfahan Province, Iran. It is an important tourist magnet.

Formerly ‘Joseph’s village’, Misri Desert was established by an Iranian whose name was Yusuf (bearing the historical Joseph similarity). Yusuf dug wells for the welfare of the villagers. But the drought was severe and underground water level went even lower, and Yusuf had to dig deeper wells.

The villagers called the village ‘ Chahi Diraz (deep well)’, but since it was not Yusuf’s attribute, Yusuf demanded the villagers call the village ‘Misr (Egypt in Persian)’ to remind the similarity between his name and the village and historical Joseph and ancient Egypt. The villagers agreed and called their village ‘Misr’.

Misr village and the desert around it are beautiful tourist centers and destination by many Iranian and foreign tourism. The astronomers enjoy its clear nights to hold workshops for the observation of the sky.
