TEHRAN, April 2 (Mehr News Agency) -- The substitute Friday Prayer leader of Tehran, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, said here today that as another Iranian year begins, everyone should endeavor to follow the guidelines set forth by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He made the remark during a Friday prayer sermon before thousands of worshippers gathered at the Tehran University campus, adding that all three branches of the government in Iran should be prepared to account for their performance and activities.

He also expressed regret that not much has been accomplished thus far in the campaign against economic corruption.

Jannati went on to congratulate the Iranian nation as well as the entire Islamic community on the occasion of March 31, the anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic republic system in Iran after Iranians overwhelmingly voted for it.

The substitute Friday Prayer leader emphasized in his remarks that the connotations of the words "Islamic" and "republic" cannot be separated when referring to the single entity of the Islamic Republic of Iran since both terms are indispensable in describing the country.

Jannati stressed that since the concept of an Islamic republic is based on Islamic teachings, the two terms should never be separated.
