TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has said that Iran supports efforts to help accelerate the reform process in Syria and supports the legitimate demands of the Syrian people.

Salehi made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanese Minister of National Defense Fayez Ghosn in Tehran on Sunday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that issues facing Syria should be resolved by the Syrian people themselves and that no country should interfere in the country’s internal affairs, Salehi stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he called for the expansion of ties between Iran and Lebanon, particularly in the area of defense.

The Lebanese foreign minister also expressed hope that Syria would weather the storm and thanked Iran for standing by the Lebanese nation and government.
