U.S. bombs not capable of destroying Iran’s facilities: WSJ

TEHRAN, Jan. 28 (MNA) – Pentagon war planners have concluded that their largest conventional bomb is not capable of destroying Iran’s fortified underground facilities, according to U.S. officials briefed on the plan, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

The 30,000-pound “bunker-buster” bomb, known as the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, was specifically designed to destroy the hardened fortifications.

But initial tests indicated that the bomb would not be capable of destroying some of Iran’s facilities, either because of their depth or because the Islamic Republic has added new fortifications to protect them.
