“Although the Interior Ministry, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and the police are responsible to maintain the security of elections, we are ready to maintain complete security in the upcoming election according to our duty,” Iran’s Police Chief Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf told the Mehr News Agency.
To do so, necessary coordination has been made with other bodies and the plans for it have been issued, Qalibaf said, adding that there is no problem in the way of preserving the election security.
The police chief went on to say that maintaining the election security is not merely confined to the polling day but it covers the campaign process. He added that the police would attempt to prevent any problem that may arise from gatherings by political parties or poster sticking during the election campaign.
“We will promise to guarantee the security of all political groups and parties if they keep police informed about the gatherings,” he said.
A senior security official who spoke on condition of anonymity also told the Mehr News Agency that the country is in the best security condition for holding elections.
The informed source said the statement by interior minister Abdul-Vahed Musavi Lari who had said the ministry under his portfolio is not capable of guaranteeing the security of elections is an expression of feeling and an inept remark.
