Ticket sales usually plunge this month of the year and filmmakers and producers are generally not interested in screening their movies while viewers wait for the new productions to appear following the Fajr festival.
But officials made their decisions to screen the movies before the event hoping to draw larger audiences into theaters. The movies will appear on the silver screen during the coming days.
“Evening of the 10th Day”, a drama about a woman who begins an odyssey in search of her sister lost during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war will appear on silver screens on Sunday.
The film was originally to be directed by Rasul Mollaqolipur in April 2007, but Mojtaba Raei was assigned to make the film after Mollaqolipur died of a heart attack in March 2007.
The story of this Iranian film takes place in Karbala, Iraq, in the month of Muharram, during which Shia Muslims commemorate the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
Mona Zandi-Haqiqi’s directorial debut “Friday Evening”, which had been banned for five years due to several screening restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance despite possessing a screening license, will also go on screen next week.
The film was screened at the 24th edition of Fajr festival and grabbed several awards. It also took part in some international festivals.
Starring Roya No-Nahali, Hanieh Tavassoli, Mehrdad Sadiqian, and Ramin Rastad, the film tells the story of a woman called Sogand and her son Omid who are shunned by her family and thus experience hard times.
Children’s genre movie “Khaleh Suskeh” (Aunt Cockroach) by Nader Torkaman should be entertaining for children, as it tells the story of Auntie Cockroach, as narrated by grandmas and published in storybooks over the years.
Sahar Valadbeigi, Ali Soleimani, and Ali Sarkhani are among the cast.
“Red Light”, the directorial debut by Ali Ghaffari, centers on a naïve young man Behruz who unwillingly gets entangled in a murder. Purya Pursorkh, Elnaz Shakerdust, Majid Yaser, Anushirvan Arjmand and Mohsen Qazimoradi star in the movie.
“The Doll” with its comic genre is directed by Ebrahim Vahidzadeh and stars Hesam Navvab-Safavi, Leila Otadi and Alireza Khamseh.
“The Infiltrator” by Ahmad Kavari and Mehdi Fiyuzi is made based on the memories of an Iran-Iraq war veteran. Jamshid Hashempur, Nasrin Moqanlu, Mohammad Kasebi and Amir-Reza Delavari play in the movie.
“Third Floor” by Bijan Mirbaqeri features the incidents two young girls experience during one night. Mahnaz Afshar, Pegah Ahangarani, Mehrdad Ziaii, and Pasha Rostami play in the film.
“The Secret of Taran Desert” by director Hatef Alimardani is Iran’s first 3-D film comprised of real characters.
Iranian artists have utilized the same techniques used in the production of the Harry Potter and Spider-Man series in the movie.
Taraneh Alidusti, Reza Shafi-Jam, and Arjang Amirfazli are the stars of the cast for the fantasy film.
“Forud in Loneliness” by Saeid Asadi which had also faced screening restrictions features the story of a young man named Forud who works for a radio station. One day during a live broadcast, he hears a young woman’s intention to commit suicide. He leaves to go save the woman but gets fired as a result.
Pejman Bazeghi, Jamshid Hashempur, Nazanin Farahani, and Naser Aqaii play in “Forud in Loneliness”.
“The Killer” is the latest film by Reza Karimi starring Bahram Radan, Mahtab Keramati, Hamed Behdad and Leila Otadi.
